you may know pnau from their breakthrough side-project >empire of the sun<, elton john signed the pair after listening to their record, and now with his blessing, a selection of eltons old masters has been re-imagined into an album featuring their recreations of his classic hits between 1970 and 1976.
elton himself is a huge fan of pnaus work and gave his blessing as well as access to his original works from that era to allow them to create this revolutionary new collection of compositions.

kyle geiger brings you his third installment on his imprint cubera in a quest to bridge some crucial gaps between house and techno constituents. this time, taking it a little deeper with the use of vocal work from vocalist stefanie jansen for the title track scream, weaving her voice in and out of a strong synth and percussion work out. in the second mix of the a-side, truncate lends his tough, stripped style for his remix of >scream<, providing a welcome contrast to the original. on the other side, >underneath< adjusts the eps sweat dial to 11 with its shit-losing, raw synth hook. the fact that this track even has a sweat dial that goes up to 11 should communicate something really special. the final track step brings more of an stabby, yet scaled back afterhours vibe to round things out, while still carrying enough critical mass to make things a little messy.

ancient future is the second collaboration between visionary pianist ryuichi sakamoto and electronic pioneer christopher willits. built around a series of piano pieces that sakamoto sent to willits after the release of the duos first record together, 2008s ocean fire, the six tracks that make up ancient future are entirely instrumental—and yet, they speak about the very essence of what it means to be human. as a whole, ancient future functions as a piece about the creation, acceptance and completion of ones fate and all of lifes experiences, following a trajectory through inner conflict, resolution and, ultimately, acceptance.

in june 2011 subtext recordings was restarted after a six year hiatus for the release of the second lp from emptyset, titled >demiurge<. this album represented a transition from the first two subtext releases, a pair of seminal experimental recordings from the groundbreaking duo vexd, switching path into a new terrain that allowed for the distortion and dissolution of the sequencer grid and shifted the focus of the label from the programmed to the composed.
through this development subtext recordings has evolved into a conversation between emptyset, the ex-vexd artist roly porter, and composer paul jebanasam, who has spearheaded the revival of the label. this new release continues this dialogue by commissioning both porter and jebanasam to respond to the material contained within >demiurge< and develop their own interpretations of the original album.
